Mozambique's death toll from Cyclone Chido has risen to 94, news agency AFP said on Sunday, citing the country's disaster management agency. The cyclone had made landfall in northern Mozambique a week ago and Mozambique's institute for natural disasters on Thursday had given the death toll at 73.

Cyclone Chido has killed 94 people in Mozambique since it made landfall in the east African country last week, local authorities have said. The country's National Institute of Risk and Disaster Management (INGD) said 768 people were injured and more than 622,000 people affected by the natural disaster in some capacity.

The swirling wind and rain hit an area where a yearslong insurgency had already forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.

Authorities say 110,000 homes were destroyed when the powerful storm made landfall last week. In Mayotte, the death toll is expected to rise dramatically.

Mozambique began constructing homes for victims of Cyclone Chido this week after the storm swept through three of the country's northern regions Sunday, killing at least 70 people and injuring 600 others as it left behind a trail of destruction.

Mozambique has declared two days of national mourning for the 73 people killed by Cyclone Chido in the north and centre of the country. In a statement, the Council of Ministers said that the days of national mourning would begin at midnight on Friday December 20.

Boeing said late on Tuesday it has resumed production of all airplane programs that had been halted by a machinists' strike in the Pacific Northwest.
