The first season of Marvel Rivals may have started, but it's brought an end to mods that let players be third-party characters.

Give the hype surrounding the game, it seemed somewhat likely that Marvel Rivals would beat its launch concurrent playercount. It did, and then some.

Marvel Rivals received a patch earlier this week which made Hulk less hulky and paved the way for the launch of its first season. It also did something else: disabled the mods players had been using to add custom skins to the game.

First reported by IGN, it appears that Marvel Rivals' season one update has disabled mods in the game. Until now, there was actually a surprisingly lively scene of modders creating skins and other cosmetic additions for the NetEase hero shooter.

The latest update to Marvel Rivals has killed support for PC mods that change the looks of its heroes, like turning Iron Man into Vegeta or Mantis into a goth. Just after season 1 started on Friday, players started asking in the Marvel Rivals Discord why their mods weren’t working.

NetEase has clamped down on Marvel Rivals skin modding in the game's latest seasonal update, so no more playing as Iron Man cosplaying Vegeta.
