This fire season, Cal Fire is utilizing a growing fleet of helicopters that are capable of fighting fire when no other aircraft can: nighttime.

Cal Fire uses a dozen highly-modified, Vietnam-era UH-1H Bell helicopters for both fighting fires and rescuing injured fireighters. The cruise speed is 126 mph and range is 250 miles.
