The New York Road Runners cancelled its fleet of 500 drones less than a week before its annual midnight run event in a decision organizers say was out of their control.

As CBS News New York's Alecia Reid reports, the decision comes after a young boy in Florida suffered severe injuries when a drone crashed into him.

A New Year's Eve drone show in Central Park has been canceled, according to the New York Road Runners. Not because of the local drone scares, but rather because it was being produced by the same vendor who was blamed for a disaster at a drone show in Florida.

This New Year’s Eve, Central Park will now have neither fireworks nor the drone show meant to replace them. The traditional pyrotechnics displays in both Central Park and Prospect Park were called off earlier this month after Mayor Eric Adams banned fireworks in response to the regional drought,
