🏀On February 21, 1970 Pete Maravich, the nation's leading college scorer, outpointed Dan Issel in an epic shootout of all‐Americans, but the second‐ranked Kentucky Wildcats defeated the LSU Tigers, 121‐ 105 at John Parker Memorial Coliseum. Maravich tallied 64 points to Issel's 51 points and 17 rebounds in the game that was televised nationally. In the ultimate display of sportsmanship, Central Washington senior Mallory Holtman, along with teammate Liz Wallace carried their injured opponent around the bases, turning a potential 2-run single and an out, if the hurt player received assistance from teammates, back to a 3-run homer.
