On June 8, 1953, an F5 tornado devastated the north side of Flint, Michigan and the suburb of Beecher, killing 116 people and injuring 844 others. The tornado touched down at 8:30 p.m., cutting an 18.6-mile path of destruction through densely populated neighborhoods where residents had almost no warning beyond seeing the massive black funnel approaching. The Beecher district absorbed the worst damage, with 113 of the 116 deaths occurring there, including 54 children and multiple entire families
